This print by Robert Cruikshank depicts the comedian John Liston out of character having been invited to a dinner party but expected to provide the entertainment for the family. Mr Liston sits in the centre of the table, looking harrassed, while a young boy holds up a print of Paul Pry. All those seated at the table are focused on Liston, some are pointing and laughing. A waiter on the left, spills a decanter of wine because he is laughing so much and a nurse on the far right holds up a small child to view the famous guest. The incident is recounted 'The English Spy', vol II (London, Shirrwood, Gilbert and Piper, 1826).
