This cut out print depicts the comedian John Liston in the character of Domine Sampson from Walter Scott's play 'Guy Mannering'. He is depicted full length, facing right, both knees slightly bent, wearing patched breeches, a coat waistcoat and cravat. In his left hand he holds a staff of office and a hat, and under the right arm is tucked a large book.
