This print depicts the comedian John Liston as Domine Sampson in Walter Scott's play 'Guy Mannering'. He is depicted full length, facing to his left, with mouth agape. He is shown wearing a blue coat, white waistcoat and brown breeches. In his left hand he holds his staff of office and in his right hand he holds a black hat. Tucked under his right arm is a large book. This print was the illustration to Volume 1 of Kenrick's 'The British Stage and Literary Cabinet, 1817'.
