Speech bubble from chracter of Mawworm: "You are all indidels!_ the public press/ the march of intellect, the spirit of the day - all is sheer idolatry! You think of doing/ everything by Capital, by machinery, and/ by laws, but i tell you, for your comfort,/ that you will all go to the _ you will/ endeavour when the day of Judgement/ arrives to cling to the skirts of my/ coat but i'll fling you all for/ lo! on that day i will/ wear a Spencer!"

This satirical print by John Doyle depicts a debate in parliament on the 26th of January 1832, in which Spencer Perceval, MP for Tiverton and son of the fomer Prime Minister, called for a general fast. He was said to have harangued the members, calling them "infidels" and made many biblical references to back his argument.
Mr Perceval is depicted at the top of the benches, with hair similar to that of Liston playing Mawworm. MP's seated around him either stare at the floor, hold their head in their hands or cover their faces with a hat out of embarrassment and annoyance. The MP's depicted are:
Daniel O' Connell, MP for Dublin City and Cork County
Charles de Laet Waldo Sibthorp, MP for Lincoln
Joseph Hume, MP for Aberdeen
Henry Hunt, MP for Preston
Sir Charles Wetherell, Politician and lawyer
Henry Warburton,
Henry Goulburn, MP for Cambridge University.
