Booklet for a complimentary luncheon to George Robey, held at the Criterion Restsurant 5 March 1918. Inside is a menu, toasts, programme of music, and a list of Committee members who organised the lunch. On the front cover is a drawing of George Robey by artist 'Frissally', surrounded by various figures who helped during the First World War effort and charitable causes Robey was affiliated with; a red cross nurse, war veterans, army and naval officers, and two children. At the outbreak of the First World War, Robey wished to enlist in the army but, in his 40s, he was too old for active service. Instead, he volunteered for the Special Constabulary and raised money for charity through his performances as a comedian. He was also a strong supporter of the Merchant Navy and raised £22,000 at a benefit held at the London Coliseum, which he donated in the navy's favour. And in 1919, Robey was awarded the Legion of Honour for raising £14,000 for the French Red Cross.
