Print of John Quick as Vellum in Act III, Scene II of Joseph Addison’s 1716 play, 'The Drummer'. Quick was among the most acclaimed comic actors of his generation.
Quick is depicted wearing an 18th century style suit and coat, with buckled black shoes and a grey haired wig. He is in a sparse interior; he sits on a chair next to a simple wooden table with a bell on a red tablecloth, his hands are clasped and he glances to his left. The scene is in an oval frame, surrounded by black and white bricks.
Engraved by Joseph Thornthwaite after a painting by Samuel de Wilde. Published for John Bell, British Library, 3 December 1792.
