This print depicts the actors Mr Shuter, Mr Quick and Mrs Green in the characters of Hardcastle, Tony Lumpkin and Mrs Hardcastle in Oliver Goldsmith's play 'She Stoops to Conquer'. The scene depicted takes place outside, with a tree to the left and in the background. Mr Shuter is depicted on the left, standing full length. He wears breeches, waistcoat, cravat, a collared cloak and a black hat. His right hand is raised, palm facing outwards. On his wrist is a walking stick. At his feet, kneeling down holding onto his leg, is Mrs Green. She wears a patterned dress, and a hood. On the right stands Mr Quick, standing full length, legs apart, he wears boots, breeches, waistcoar and long coat. He wears a riding hat on his head, and holds a whip towards the couple.
