This photographic postcard depicts the actor manager Johnston Forbes Robertson as Mark Embury in the play 'Mice and Men' and Gertrude Elliott, who played Peggy. They are depicted standing, with Peggy presenting Mr Embury a sprig of flowers.
'Mice and Men' was written by Madeleine Lucette Ryley, and is a romantic play about a bachelor who decides to conduct an experiment and find himself a perfect wife. He takes on a ward called Peggy, played by Gertrude Elliott, who eventually did become the wife of Forbes Robertson. The play opened at the Lyric Theatre in January 1902, and ran for 365 performances.
