This photographic postcard depicts the actor manager Matheson Lang as Armand in a play called 'The Purple Mask', which he adapted from the French 'Le Chevalier au Masque' by Paul Armont and Jean Manoussi. It opened London 1918 and ran for 365 performances. It is a play set in France under Napoleon, the Royalists rally behind a mysterious figure in a purple mask whose actions give them hope.
