This photographic postcard depicts the actor manager Fred Terry and his wife, the actress Julia Neilson, in the play 'Henry of Navarre' by William Deverreux. It was first performed at the New Theatre in 1909. Fred Terry and Julia Neilson became known for their sumptuous historical dramas. This postcard depicts Fred Terry as Henry de Bourbon, walking with open arms towards Julia Neilson (Marguerite de Valois). She appears to gesture towards a goblet on the floor. On the right, stand a crowd of people. Seated on the bench is the actor Malcolm Cherry, in the role of Charles IX, who appears to have drunk a goblet of wine, which remains in his hand, as he stares down towards his feet.
