This is photographic postcard, depicts the French actress and manager, Sarah Bernhardt. She is shown full length, standing in front of some steps of an Indian palace. She wears a loose gown, richly ornamented with beads and jewels. On her chest rests the lotus brooch M0029, that was created specially for this role. At her feet is a Leopard skin rug. Bernhardt first played the role of Izeyl in the play of the same name in 1894. It was written for her by Morand and Sylvestre, and is about an Indian Courtesan who finds love and enlightenment through the meeting of a holy man.
