Black and white bromide photographic postcard depicting Dame Gladys Cooper, seemingly not in character, with her two children, John and Joan Buckmaster. Gladys, on the left, wears a sleeveless dress and a white beaded necklace, she rests her hand on Joan's arm and looks over her shoulder. Joan wears a rolled up long sleeved white shirt and white pleated skirt, she holds a book in front of John, who wears a long sleeved white shirt, and looks at it over his shoulder. Their gazes are all directed at the book, as if they are reading. This is mirrored on the right-hand side. There are three rose heads underneath the text 'Just a line from Blackpool' and the postcard has a white plain border. Published by A. & E.C., Blackpool.
The reverse has no message.
Gladys Cooper (1888-1971) was a celebrated actress of the stage and screen, with a career spanning seven decades. She was renowned for her beauty; she became a photographic model in the early 1900s and was famous for her appearance on many picture postcards of the time. Postcards were cheap and reliable and were bought not just to send messages but to keep as souvenirs.
