Hand-coloured bromide photographic postcard depicting Dame Gladys Cooper, seemingly not in character. Gladys wears a long-sleeved light pink dress with pale yellow lace trim. She sits on a wooden chair and looks towards the camera with her hands cupping her face. On the front there is a birthday message that reads: 'Many happy returns to Auntie with love. The happiest of Birthdays!- And may you always find as through the years you journey, all care is left behind...' There is a white border of imprinted flowers.
The reverse has a message addressed to Auntie May from Ena.

Gladys Cooper (1888-1971) was a celebrated actress of the stage and screen, with a career spanning seven decades. She was renowned for her beauty; she became a photographic model in the early 1900s and was famous for her appearance on many picture postcards of the time. During the 1910s and Interwar period, postcards were a common, inexpensive and reliable form of sending messages. They were also kept as souvenirs and seen as collectible items.
