Photograph of the actor John Clayton (John Alfred Calthrop) by Window & Grove, London, and published by Strand Publishing Company, 2 August 1888. Taken specially for 'The Theatre', a Monthly Review series, Volume XI. Clayton is depicted in half length, looking to his left, and he appears in costume, wearing a dark velvet jacket with waistcoat, white shirt and cravat, and he holds a sword in his hands.
