Woodburytype photograph depicting actress Miss Ellen Farren by an unknown photographer, published by Hardwicke & Bogue 1879. She is depicted in half length, standing to the right, she wears a long-sleeved dark dress, with white shirt underneath and a dark thick brimmed hat. Her left hand rests on her collar and she looks slightly past the viewer. On the verso is a print of Mr John Clayton (John Alfred Calthrop), actor and manager of the Court Theatre and best known for his roles in the farces of Arthur Wing Pinero. The print was likely made shortly after his death in 1888. He is depicted in side profile, looking to the right, and he wears a dark suit jacket with a white shirt.
