Photograph of the actor-manager Sir Henry Irving as Cardinal Wolsey in 'Henry VIII', by W.& D. Downey and published by Cassell & Company Ltd, 1893. Formed part of 'The Cabinet Portrait Gallery' series of photographs by W.& D. Downey, published between 1890-94. Irving is depicted full-length in a cardinal costume, and looks directly at the viewer. The photograph is accompanied by a flyer detailing the dates and theatres for Irving and Ellen Terry's American tour in1893-4.
