Coloured postcard depicting actor and actor-manager Sir Henry Irving as Matthias from Leopold David Lewis' play 'The Bells'. The postcard is from Raphael Tuck & Sons 'Oilette' series. Irving is depicted full-length and stands facing the right in front of a green curtain backdrop. He wears a loose white shirt tucked into brown trousers with black knee-high stockings and buckled shoes.

The reverse has a message to Miss A. E. Bolton and is postmarked 23 October 1905.
