Onslow Ford made something of a speciality of portraying Irving as Hamlet. His life-size seated figure in white marble, now in the Guildhall Art Gallery, was shown at the R.A. 1883 (1628). S0021 may be the Hamlet shown at the R.A. in 1885; and another Hamlet was shown posthumously at the R.S.P.P. in 1909 (181). The “Magazine of Art” (1902) p. 181, illustrated another full-length figure of Irving as Hamlet by the same artist.
