This bust of Sir Laurence Olivier as Hamlet is the duplicate head of the statue of the actor installed outside the National Theatre on the Southbank in 2007, as part of the Laurence Olivier centenary project. The statue by Angela Conner depicts a scene from the 1948 film of Hamlet, directed by Sir Laurence, where Hamlet climbs the battlement steps of Elsinore to meet the ghost of his father's spirit. This bust shows the shirt lapels that formed part of Hamlet's costume, worn during the 1948 film.
