Mrs Billington wears a dark blue velvet frock with a gold band around the bust line, a gold belt, and a gold chain round her neck. Her red velvet cloak is lined in white satin.
Masquerier produced three portraits of Mrs Billington; the other two were in pastel drawn in 1801 and 1802. R. M. See claims that the first of these, owned by M. Jaselman in 1922, is in costume, but there seems to be little evidence for this.
