This postcard depicts Russian actress Glikeriya Nikolaevna Fedotova in an unknown role.
She was a friend and teacher of Konstantin Stanislavski, a theatre practitioner and actor who co-founded the Moscow Art Theatre. She starred in twenty-nine plays by Russian playwright Alexander Ostrovsky, with at least two being written specifically for her.
She is depicted half-length, facing the viewer, and she wears a black dress with beading detail, a brooch on her neck, and earrings.
The photo taken by Karl Fischer, a prominent German-born Russian photographer who was the official photographer for Imperial Theatres between 1892-1915.
