Coloured postcard depicting actor and actor-manager Sir Henry Irving as Mathias from Leopold David Lewis' play 'The Bells'. The postcard is from Raphael Tuck & Sons 'Oilette' series. Irving is depicted full-length, sitting on a chair by a desk and facing the viewer. Ghostly figures appear behind him. He wears a brown jacket, loose white shirt tucked into brown trousers, blue knee-high stockings and buckled shoes.

The reverse has a message to Miss Temple and is postmarked 30 October 1905.
